Not Your Grandma’s Fake Flowers

Forget everything you think you know about fake flowers
A tablesetting with bright orange centerpieces and a blue runner.

We’ve all seen that clearance aisle at the craft store filled with junky looking plastic flowers. Or the atrocious artificial centerpiece on your grandma’s dining room table at Easter. We get it. Most fake flowers just look… fake. But high quality, realistic faux flowers do exist!

Unlike your local craft store flowers, quality faux flowers are often quite expensive averaging about $6 per floral stem, and for good reason. Realistic faux flowers are made from high quality materials and utilize time-consuming techniques in manufacturing that create beautiful florals as realistic as fresh.

To help couples from falling into the trap of tacky fake flowers, below is a guide to help in the floral selection process

How to find realistic faux flowers

Look for high quality materials

Realistic florals should mimic colors seen in nature

Embrace the imperfection of nature

Texture
Look for high quality materials that feel like fabric

Faux flowers are notorious for looking plastic… Because all too often they are made of stiff, shiny plastic. When looking for high-end faux florals, look for softer materials that seem more like fabric than plastic. This material simulates the delicate texture of fresh florals much better.

The quality of the fabric also matters. Many cheap faux flowers will fray at the edges which is a dead giveaway, especially if you plan on getting close-up detail shots with your photographer.

Another major sin of the faux flower industry is creating flowers that do not reflect colors in nature. Lime green roses and light blue tulips look cheap and unnatural because they are unnatural. We love vibrant colors but selecting blooms with realistic coloring will result in arrangements that truly look real.

Variation
Embrace the imperfection of nature

In real life, no two flowers are the same. Even blooms from the same plant will have slightly different colors and sizes. There is an infinite number of petal arrangements, and one flower may be just opening while another is in full bloom.

When arranging silk flower, intentionally vary the size of the blooms or purposefully pick slightly different shades of colors to mimic the natural variation of fresh flowers and greenery.

Our silk floral designers carefully arrange bouquets to embrace and mimic the beautiful imperfections of nature.

With so many high quality options on the market, the days of tacky fake flower arrangements are gone!

We believe that offering affordable rentals of high quality faux flowers will open the options for many couples on a budget.
